Barilla Pasta Championship – Philippines Finals Set for June 5 at Benilde

Rising Filipino Chefs to Be Judged by Renowned Culinary Masters

 

Manila, Philippines – The highly anticipated Barilla Pasta Championship – Philippines Finals is set to take place on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (SHRIM).

Finalists from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Korea, India, Japan, and Singapore

Part of the prestigious Pasta Championship Asia, the competition celebrates the artistry and skill of professional chefs through the lens of Italian gastronomy. This event is proudly supported by Werdenberg International Corporation and Säntis Delicatessen, long-time champions of culinary excellence and authentic European food culture in the Philippines.

Six talented chefs will showcase their creativity and technical skill in a live competition, each presenting their own interpretation of pasta to a distinguished panel of judges:

  • Chef Manuel Valila – Dough & Grocer

  • Chef Joshua Alfonso – Tartufo Ristorante

  • Chef Karl Vincent Manlapaz – Mama Lou’s Group Holding Inc.

  • Chef Aaron Gulinao – The Westin Manila

  • Chef Jan Hubilla – Marriott Hotel Manila

  • Chef Danilyn Dagle – Palms Country Club

The chefs will be evaluated by a prestigious panel composed of internationally acclaimed culinary professionals:

  • Chef Andrea Tranchero
    Executive Chef Asia Pacific, Barilla Group
    A seasoned culinary leader with over 30 years of experience across Italy, the USA, France, China, Japan, and Australia, Chef Tranchero has led Michelin-starred kitchens and directed operations at Armani Ristorante Tokyo. He has been with Barilla since 2018, driving culinary innovation throughout Asia Pacific.

  • Chef Margarita Marty
    Chairperson, Culinary Arts Program, SHRIM – De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde
    Known for her creative approach to Filipino cuisine, Chef Marga is a respected figure in both the local culinary scene and academic community.

 

  • Chef Carlo Miguel
    Director for Sports & Socials LTB Philippines Chefs Association
    With over 30 years of experience in fine dining restaurants in Sydney, Australia, and Manila, Philippines, Chef Carlo is currently the Culinary Director of Wildflour Group.

 

  • Chef Othmar Frei
    Chief Operating Officer, Werdenberg International Corporation
    A Swiss-trained chef and certified international culinary judge, Othmar Frei has helped shape the growth of Werdenberg Group and Säntis Delicatessen, maintaining a high standard for quality and authenticity in gourmet food retail and dining.

The Barilla Pasta Championship is not only a competition, but a platform that elevates the craft of pasta-making, honoring Italian culinary traditions while embracing the regional diversity and creativity of chefs across Asia.
